So, I woke up to the raining POURING over thirsty Africa. It was rough trying to wake up, which was okay because today is our free day! A group of us went to the craft market, and goodness, I was so overwhelmed. Next time I go I'll have to take a picture to show y'all. I got some neats things. It really should be called a "crap market." Let me know if you want something special. I can't promise anything.
So... on our way home, a boda boda driver hit us! He was trying to slip by us and was coming head on. He realized what was going to happen, so he turned and his whole right side hit us. Ivan drove up a little ways and then parked to go check on the guy. The driver thought Ivan was going to hurt him, so he took off running. Ivan was like, "No, no! It's fine! I'm checking on you!" He says that it happens all the time. Interesting ..
I think we're going to just go hang out in Garden City tonight while some of the girls go see a movie. I'm interested to see what their kind of shopping consists of.
Yesterday was my first day to do laundry. Let's just say that my clothes are a little starchy today. My friend Sarah and I were using the same 2 rinse buckets (you wash, rinse, rinse), and we don't waste water here, so yeah .. oh well. :) I'll learn for next time!
Fun facts:
- They honk their horn ALL the time. It's their way of saying, "I'm behind you, and I'm about to pass you." They don't really have lanes either. For a road that you would think is a 2 lane road can sometimes turn into a 4 lane road.
- Social workers get paid more than policemen.
- Driving here is CRAZY! You better keep all arms, legs, and belongings in the vehicle.
If y'all ever want more pictures from a certain day, just let me know, and I would be more than happy to e-mail you some! I only post some that give the big picture of what we did. (bstewa9@tigers.lsu.edu)
