So this is is how my journey started .. telling my precious parents goodbye. My mom surprised me .. there weren't really that many tears.
The streets actually remind me a lot of Mexico .. kind of weird, but it makes it more exciting for me.

We just had a very typical African lunch. It was rice, cooked plantains (there's a special name, but I'm not sure what it's called) and some other starchy potato thing with "greens" that were dark green and dark red and not very tasty. Should be an interesting 6 weeks. :)
I already helped wash some dishes, which is quite interesting. You have a scrubbing bucket and a rinsing bucket, and the water is really gross at the end, but that's okay. They don't waste water here.
I may get to see Lilian today! woooh!!
Well, that's all for now. Today is their day of rest, so not a lot is going on.
Go in Peace.
Broooooke!!!! "Go in peace"? Guess it will have to be the Peace of God because I'm soooo anxious/excited! This whole thing definitely wipes away all of my manmade peace. But you know what? That means God's doing something BIG!
ReplyDeleteWho's Lilian?
No my sweet baby girl you did not see me cry when you left. I promised myself you would not see me cry so I cried buckets in the shower that morning and I cried buckets later that night. All of my crying is done so now I only wish you for you the best of everything and hope you fulfill all your dreams during this mission. You are quite a beautiful wonderful woman and I am so very proud of you. Now I only cry tears of joy knowing you made it and how much good you are going to do during this mission. Stay safe my sweet baby girl and know that you will be home in 42 1/2 days....but whose counting...
ReplyDeleteI love you my baby!!!!!! Mom
Brooke,
ReplyDeletei am so relieved you made it. I remember how long that flight is, and it was really hard to be patient. I wasn't able to eat anything in Africa except oranges, pineapple, and peanut butter. Hope you find things you like. Your adventure is finally starting and I can't wait to live vicariously through you for the next 6 weeks. Stay safe and know that I love you.
